Sunny SoCal with SS performer & mods

I actually got the gas regulator and hose assembly from Amazon for $29, with prime free shipping.

Finished the "milk crate" mod today. I think it looks pretty good.

The large panel on the front facing side of the crate looks too...bare. I will be looking for something to place there. Maybe another Weber Logo plate? i dunno, well see.

I bought the crate at an arts and crafts store and painted it to match my wood pieces.
I had to line the interior of the crate with a black heavy duty plastic bag so that charcoal & its dust wouldn't fall out.

Then, I placed the crate under the opening allowed by sliding lid. At the moment, its easy to scoop up charcoal after sliding the lid, but once I place the basket there, I may have to slide the crate out a bit to get at the charcoal or i can remove the basket when needed. Either way its really easy an better than having to take things off the lid so that I can flip it up and grab charcoal.

Im not worried about the charcoal getting wet since I have the heavy duty Weber SSP cover on my Grill all the time that goes down to the floor.

Now I have a charcoal bin and lid hinge rod for laying around...anyone want it???

here i go again..

I decided to add a feature inspired by the newer performers.

Tilting charcoal crate!!

just bought some cable, screwed it onto the charcoal crate and anchored it to the grill

Now i can pull out the crate far enough to scoop up charcoal without needing to take the entire thing out or worrying about it falling out.

aghh. I can't believe how many pickets photobucket was hosting. Pictures are worth a thousand words sometimes and can no longer see them.

They should of let people pay a 5-10 cents a picture for lifetime hosting for legacy uploaded pics.

Fellas! It’s been a while since I’ve posted. But I have some updates on my customized Blue SS performer

Long story short, I sold my in 2020 on Craigslist..which I regretted. I reverted it to flip top before selling it and included a bunch of accessories including the iGrill thermometer.

Fast forward to January 2025, I was surfing OfferUp and found THE grill. In the same condition, just a bit dirty, being sold by the exact same guy I sold it too 5 years ago!

We met up and he told me he “bought it from some guy who customized it years ago”. At the end of the deal, I told him I was the “guy” and he was stoked about it.

Anyway, although he took care of it and left it in the same condition I sold it to him in…accessories and all…even the iGrill works, it was dusty and dirty since he hadn't used it in years.

Since I got it back; I’ve been working on it and upgrading various things I always planned on doing.

Well, here she is now.-

-sanded, refinished, restained and resealed all wood (he had painted the wood dark brown)
-cut slot on kettle for thermometer leads
-Upgraded Caster to 4 1/4 in from casters.com
-Upgraded wheels to 12 in lawnmower wheels
-Reconverted flip top to sliding top with color matching soft close sliders
-Added additional wood trim/panels to “side” and “rear”
-deleted igniter, burner tube, mini propane tank feature (never used it) allowed more room for storage
-added a storage compartment under sliding top for tools etc using 6in deep food pan
-sealed hole leftover from burner tube delete using SNS “smoke hole” cover”
-upgraded lid bale to 2012 model (allows lid to be 90 degrees)
-added bottle opener and drink holder
-added storage area for condiments, spray bottles, etc..
-moved grate holder to “rear” of grill
-added extra tool hooks
-added extra “Weber” plate

Been using it to smoke ribs and regular grilling since

I plan on getting-

-slow and sear
-sns EZ spin cooking grate
-Charcoal storage bag
-Sns elevated grate

Needless to say, I won’t ever sell this grill again

Some serious upgrades there. The clever sliding lid is an especially good one that solves one of the stock SSP’s shortcomings.
