Summit 425 - Looking for opinions

I'm considering refurbing a Summit 425. Looking for opinions on this grill. I have a Performer and a regular kettle, but this would be my first Weber gasser. Replacing a Charbroil gasser that is 6 years old and has reached its expiration date.

IIRC the 425 is the one without cabinet doors just an open shelf underneath? But the head is the same as the 450. If so it a very good piece. However give it a good going over before you spend anything. If the firebox is bad (not common) you cannot get replacement parts

Thanks! You're right, there is a shelf instead of a cabinet.

Do you mean you can't get a replacement firebox or you can't get any interior parts like burners etc..?

Not sure what your initial investment is or the current condition of the grill itself, but it certainly would be a candidate to be refurbished especially if the frame and firebox are in good shape. The Summit line uses stainless steel internal parts, but time, weather and lack of good cleaning take their toll. I know that the Summit line had a pretty big revision when Weber came out with the current line which changed the positioning of the controls from horizontal to vertical. What that means in terms of parts availability, I don't know. I have a Summit 420 and I can tell you from the cooking perspective they are great and will make even the most hardcore "charcoal only" grillers take notice.

All the internals are still available. It is the actual firebox itself you cannot find any more. As long as the porcelain coating is intact and no rust through it should be great. It is made of very thick metal and should last for many years. Even though the size is exactly the same as older style Genesis you'll find it cooks more evenly and because of 4 burners can be a little more flexible so you can actually cook a little more on it. The only thing it cannot do as well as a Genesis (old style) is rotisserie. I have both an old Genesis II and the Summit 450. And for rotisserie the only way someone gets that Genny away from me is to pry it from my cold dead fingers!
