Store bought rub... Do I salt and pepper in addition

I made my own rub, and bought two more pre-made ones.. JOHN HENRY, and BONE SUCKIN' -

Do I salt and pepper before then apply rub?

I haven't tried either of those, so can't say for sure. Taste them and go by your taste. What's the sodium content on the nutritional label?? Pepper, well that's all according to your personal tastes as to whether it needs more or not.

Do I salt and pepper before then apply rub? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>look at the ingredients list. if salt is first I would REALLLLLLLY suggest not salting. I have not used those but I do have a store bought that is way to salty, I will need to cut it with something to make it work.

The Texas rub does NOT list salt first. {the label laws dictate the order on ingredients from greatest to least.}

lots of the store bought need to plan on a longer shelf life so they add the salt.

as always my opinion and 89 cents will get you a coffee at 7/11....if you bring your own cup

9 times out of 10 I would say NO! Most store/internet bought rubs contain way too much salt as is. Texas BBQ rubs are the exception to the rule. Even so, I wouldn't add any more salt when using the Texas BBQ rubs. HTH
