Storage Size for 18.5 WSM

As the snow is now here and all the stores are out of stock of WSM's, I am not able to see one in the flesh, so to speak.

From reading all the information, I understand that the 18.5 WSM is approx 19" wide x 19" deep x 41" high.

I would like to take the smoker along with me in my motor home and was wondering what is the smallest volume that the unit would occupy without any major disassembly such as removing the legs. For example, will the lid turn upside down on middle cooking section after removing the grates? If this was possible then the storage height would be approx 30" high which would be a significant saving in volume in the storage compartment.

Thanks for the measurement. Unfortunately the storage compartments on the coach are only 30" high. It looks like I would have to have allow for 2 areas of approximately 20" square x 30" tall for the WSM.

Your reference contains a lot of great ideas to consider. I will use it as a basis for traveling next summer. I had thought that the magical wish elf would bring me one for Christmas. His suppliers here in Ontario think there is something wrong with you when you inquire about a smoker at this time of year and suggest that you return sometime in April or May when stocks are replenished.

Hang in there. My theory is the squeaky wheel always gets the grease. Keep hounding the elf and see what happens!
 
Len,when you turn the lid upside down,use an old towel to protect the finish on the lid. Trust me. I found out the hard way!
