Standing rib roast question

I will be smoking a 3 rib standing rib roast tomorrow night.
I am following the guide on the home page by Chris. His was a 7 bone roast. His took about 3 1/2 hrs. Is it safe to assume mine will take only 1/2 as long?
Also still use 3 chunks of oak, or cut it back a little for a smaller roast?
Thanks in advance for any advise!

Safe to assume? Well that is hard to say for sure. If you are doing everything else the same as Chris, probobly. It is a good place to start. Just remember each piece of meat is different.

I smoked a 5 bone rib roast yesterday that took 4 hours. I didn't use temps as high as Chris though. Pretty much ran it at 275° yesterday. I cooked a few 2 bone roasts last week at work and they took 1.5 to 2 hours each. Temps ran about 325° on that cook.

As Jeff stated each piece of meat is different, I smoked a 22 lb rib roast on Xmas and it only took 4 1/2 hours to do, and really I should have taken it off sooner. I would definately keep an eye on the internal temp. Depending on your how you like your meat, I would shoot for an internal temp of 135*, then wrap it in foil and let it rest for about 30 minutes, then slice and you will be very satisfied with the results.
