Spring Cleaning

Just watched a couple of YouTube videos where a Weber gas grill was cleaned using a power washer. Anyone tried this method. I want to clean a genesis II SE-335 and my E6 but want to make sure I do not hurt anything. I’ll be covering the igniters.

Thanks in advance!!

I pressure washed a couple of silver Bs when they were dismantled.

It didn't really do much with the burnt crusties inside, but as a first step, it helped a bit.

I pressure wash my patio every spring and usually hit my genesis 1000 with it as well and it does come pretty clean. I also pressure washed it when I took it apart to restore it. In that case I was using the most aggressive spray tip and getting real close to all the parts. It did a pretty decent job on the cookbox, it didn't get everything out, but close. It also removed nearly all the paint from the lid end caps which was fine at that point. I use a 2800 psi gas pressure washer. It also did a great job on the stainless steel grates.

Used high pressure nozzle, no power washer. Sprayed bowl with dawn dish liquid 1:3 with water. Let sit about an hour. Quick scrub with with brush. Rinsed/sprayed with high pressure hose nozzle (daughter has my power washer). Could have scrubbed more but don’t think I need to.

Hardest part to clean is the top inside of the bowl along with the lip where the grate sits.

Grate was another issue. Sprayed with Easy Off and sealed into a large trash bag. Left for 4+ hours. Scrub and rinse. Not good results. Easy off did NOT hardly loosen the crud. Used Easy Off fume free oven cleaner.

I have yet to find a degreaser that I like. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Old degreaser trick I used to use on my porcelain enabled cooktop burner grates which worked miracles.

Placed the burner grates in a large garbage bag, placed around 1/8 cup of lemon scented ammonia in bag, tied bag shut, left on patio in direct sun/heat for a few hours, then cut open bag while NOT breathing in the fumes, removed cooktop parts and washed off in sink with hot water, one of those scrubbie pads with plastic abrasive side and an old credit card for scraping the tough spots and rinsed away the stuck on gunk.

This method worked miracles. I DO NOT KNOW IF OUR GRATES AND BE DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO AMMONIA. I RECCO RESEARCH BEFORE DOING THIS METHOD.

The straight ammonia basically melts the burnt on carbon bits, breaking the bond the carbon had made with the metal.

I like how your bowl came out and using non volatile cleaning solutions. I’ll try this soon. Thx!

As for the inner top lid, I ball up some aluminum foil and just abrade the inner dome and the carbon breaks free. At lease the non-bonded bits do. On the rapid fire chimney flip lid, I’d use your dish soap method the clean that part.

@Mark Foreman , did you clean your grill over a grassy area? i ask because I don't want the residual junk on my patio, so i'm curious where you placed your WSK before the cleaning process.

Have you tried Simple Green BBQ Degreaser? Just curious. Also, I've heard recommendations before to take a weed burner and go postal on the grates and just torch everything to a crisp and scrape it off.
