Spirit Griddle Insert Compatibility?

I was looking at a Weber Rust-Resistant Griddle Insert at Home Depot, yesterday (Part #6787). This is the full-size, carbon steel insert that replaces both grates.

Does anybody know if this will fit a 2013 Spirit E-310?

According to the box, it says its only compatible with Spirit 300 series grills from 2016+. But my understanding is that the generations of three-burner Spirit grills are as follows:
  1. Spirit 700, (1993 - 2006)
  2. Spirit E/S, Side Control (2007 - 2012)
  3. Spirit E/S, Front Control (2013 - 2017)
  4. Spirit II (2018 - 2024)
  5. New Spirit 400 (2025 - ???)
So I'm a bit confused. If the drop-in griddles are compatible with the Third Generation grills, wouldn't they be compatible with grills from 2013+? Other wise, if they're not compatible with the 2013 Spirit, then wouldn't they only be compatible with Fourth & Fifth Generation grills, and therefore grills from 2018+?

Did something change in 2016?

Like, is there a 3.1 Generation and a 3.2 Generation? Is there a difference between the cookbox of a 2013 Weber Spirit E-310 and the cookbox of a 2016 Weber Spirit E-310? Or are all the Third Generation cookboxes identical? I know that they all use the same grates (Part #7638), which are shared with the earlier Genesis models.

I'm just hoping that this new griddle will fit my old grill :giggle:

All the three burner Spirits, EXCEPT the new small one the same size as the 2-burner but with the "extra" burner (and now the 4-burner Spirit the same size as the new 3-burner) all have the same grate size as the "classic" Genesis 1-5, x000, Silver/Gold/Platinum grills. Weber and other vendors often do not mention this anymore, I guess because for most people these old Genny's are long past consideration.

I don’t think I was aware of that. I knew the last E/W burners Spirits were the same, but not the N/S models

Please forgive my newb question: But what do the terms "E/W burners" and "N/S models" mean? It seems like Weber has been selling multiple generation of the Spirit line at the same time ... which is confusing as heck.

And yes, I pointed out that the grate sizes are the same. But can anyone confirm either that the Rust-Resistant Griddle does or does not fit inside a Third Generation Spirit (as outlined above)? Fitment here is three-dimensional, so even if they take the same grates, it might not fit. That might be why the box says 2016+

I noticed that the Weber Crafted frame kit says the same thing: 2016+

Was there some major shift between the 2013 Weber Spirit E-310 and the 2016 Weber Spirit E-310 (not talking about the Spirit II)

No worries! We were all new to this at different times. E/W is East West, N/S North South. Control panels on the side are the E/W, front controls N/S.

As for the griddle insert, I haven’t a clue, but will follow along for curiosity sake.

I don't have an answer to your question about fitment, but grease management is a concern with a griddle, and some griddles may have a trough or a hole for the grease to drain. There might be a cup or pan or channel for grease collection in a grill designed for use with a griddle that isn't present on an earlier model.

The true original Genesis had the burners laid out running from left to right. These were the epitome of Weber design. The newer ones beginning in 2011 put the control knobs in the front and the burners laid out running front to back. MEH design like all other grills. Until now, when Ninja has resurrected a new (old Genesis) design.

Yes it should. The cooking surface dimensions for the 3 burner Weber Spirits built before 2024 have common dimensions.

Check the measurements to be sure.
