Spacers for middle rack on 22.5

I saw the mods section of the home page for TVWBB and decided to build a quick and easy middle grate. there is 4 inches of clearance between each grate. I could get another couple inches of clearance by dropping the waterpan and bottom grate a couple inches - at some point.

I used 4 - 5 inch 3/8 inch carriage bolts with a bolt above and below with washers, this will increase the capacity by 1/3! I had thought of a stacker but decided on this for now.

Cool, Jeff. That's the way I went with my 18. What's neat is that I can turn the bottom rack with the bolts upside down and use as an extender in the dome of my 22.

Pretty good idea. I rarely cook on anything but the top rack, but then I don't cook for party's often. I could see setting it up now for if I need it then... How does that leave you for spacing between the racks?

That'll be perfect. I have to smoke a whole bunch of Italian Sasage for Grad Party next month. Now I can get it all done in 2 hours

There is 4 inches between grate, if you drop the waterpan and lower grate down a couple inches ( I would go any lower ) you would have 5 inches. I was thinking mainly for ribs or chicken maybe brisket (?) anything that would be no more than 4 inches high.

I did something similar with my 18 only I removed the grill straps, went to Lowes and bought 4 mirror fasteners and spot welded them to the grill straps so I could create a middle grate. I also have a Hover grill for above the top grate. Little things like Jeff has done sure can add capacity.
