Smoking with foil

I have a weber kettle and like to smoke quick meals with woodchips. Wrapping them in foil seems to produce the longest, most even production of smoke, but I've had the foil vaporize from putting it directly on the coals. Is this a bad thing? Should I use a metal box instead? Thanks.

Mike...

Try using wood chunks instead of chips. I use fist sized chunks...same as I use in the WSM. I only use chips when doing on the gasser.

Also, no need to soak them when using the larger chunks.
