Smoking in the Rain

Well....

Tonight into tomorrow was going to be my first crack at cooking all four meats for completion at KCBS turn-in times. (I want to try a comp this summer) The weather here in Brooklyn is really bad with High winds, 45+ mph, and rain. (a gust blew over my 18"OTG) The wind has died down a bit, but a medium rain persists.
I've cooked in the snow, but never in the rain. If I try this, will I get water into the cooker that would effect my fire?

All thoughts appreciated.

Brett

We have the pleasure of living in a rain forest. You might go through a little extra fuel but no wories about water getting into the cooker while it is hot. Get it out of the rain when the cook is over though because it will fill up when it isn't warm. The wind is more of an issue, try to block it the best you can and you're gold!

I cooked yesterday and we had rain showers on and off all day. The wind was variable but was persistent all day.

I put my "Smoking Jacket" on my WSM, and the cooker didn't even know it was raining!

If you can find one for a reasonable price, it's a great addition to the smoking arsenal. It also turns the WSM into a fuel miser!

Thanks guys.

It's down to a drizzle right now and everything seems ok so far. I was truly hoping to create a work of art this weekend. Now I'll be happy if I just get everything out of the cooler and cooked. My wife tollerates my hobby so long as no food gets wasted to spoilage.

Butt, Brisket and Ribs are in. I gotta go finish preparing my chicken.

Thanks again,

Brett
