Smoking in a storm

We had one of our annual November storms roll through the damp and dreary Pacific NW today. Unfortunately I didn't catch the forecast and had already slammed some ribs down in the marinade yesterday.

So, during the wind and rain, I set up a wind break and went with the vietnamese cherry smoked ribs in the Weber Charcoal Grilling book. The temp locked in at the sweet spot and held for the 4 hour cook over lazzari hardwood. The ribs were great! No pics this time, you'll just have to trust me. I sealed a bunch for the freezer.

WSM rocks. NO WAY will I put it away for the winter. I'm having too much fun.

I like to compare my WSM to a mailman - it always delivers through wind, rain and snow. Believe it or not i am looking forward to winter up here and doing a few sub zero cooks on the deck. Just last winter on superbowl sunday i started a cook at 3 in the morning with a temp of -4 and windchills of -10

There's something SO primal and satisfying about bbq'ing when mere mortals fear to tread outdoors. The holidays are perfect for grilling up some delicacies!

yeah there is some satisfaction I get with a bbq in the winter and bad weather..that I dont with perfect weather in the summer

You guys make me feel like a whimp. I mean the worst I have to face is a 45° - 50° night and a slight drizzle here in Southern Cal.

By storm, Mr. Howlett meant winds topping out at 97 mph in some places around Puget Sound.

Where I am, we only had winds to 58 mph, but then I wasn't outside BBQing, just down at the marina in a downpour, battening down the hatches and making sure the boat stayed attached to the dock.
