In addition to a 6.5 lb butt smoked on Saturday, I made my first batch of ABT's. I used 8 whole seeded jalapeno's and stuffed them with a mixture of cream cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and herbs. I then wrapped them in bacon and added them at about 11:00am to the upper rack with my Boston butt and smoked them for about 90 minutes. They came our perfect. My wife tested one and gave it a double thumbs up. My daughter tried one and loved it. Unfortunately, she has an issue with spicy foods and her tongue swelled up pretty bad. I tried to warn her, but she was obviously more intelligent than dad...... and wanted to try the ABT's I had been telling her about. Fortunately, the tongue condition only lasts about an hour.
So, of the 7 remaining ABT's , I ate one and agreed it was a bit too spicy. I thought with the seeds out, the jalapenos would not be too spicy. Wrong! My wife on the other hand LOVES spicy foods and told me she would take care of a few over the course of the afternoon and re-heat the rest on Sunday. I then had a great idea.... I'll make another batch, but use some mini sweet peppers instead of jalapenos. That batch also turned out great.
So now we have a batch of 8 "sub-atomic buffalo turds" and 4 leftover ABT's from the first batch. They were sitting on a plate on the kitchen counter for us to enjoy over the course of the afternoon. My wife then mentioned that the neighbor down the street was having an estate sale so we walked down to see if there was anything good. Our dog (Harley) watched us walk away, apparently already scheming.....
As soon as we were gone, he became a dog on a mission. He apparently headed right for the kitchen, jumped up on the counter, pushed the plate of turds onto the floor and proceeded to eat every single one of them (all 12). We were gone all of about 15 minutes and all we had left of the "turds" when we cam back was a ripped up napkin and an empty plate. With a full tummy, it was time for Harley to sleep it off......
