Slot for probes

I have been using the lamp threaded tube going through the top screw for the shelf bracket for my 732 access probes. I however am now second guessing if the slot might be a better approach. When cooking with meat on both shelves the probes are a pain because you can't remove the top rack easy. Using the slot it would be simple, just unplug from the unit and lift out the grate. I also find it a little slow snaking through the hole and back up through the grates.

I considered using the slot from the beginning but once files in it's stays there. The bracket location I used for my pass through tube is easy to re-install the original screw.

So my question is does anyone regret putting in the slot of their WSM?

Glad to hear, I think this weekend I will be doing this and removing my lamp tube. I have a nice small diameter rat tail file, is that what you guys used?

From what I've read (I still have the bracket hole lamp rod), most use a dremel or an angle grinder.

Like Chris said, I used the dremel just because I didnt have a side grinder and it did fine.

Well I did it tonight with that 3/16" diameter round file and it was pretty easy to do. Before touching it up with some paint I did a dry run and this is going to be a big improvement. Now the top grate comes off probes and all, much easier.

The first thing I did to mine when I picked it up last week was take my angle grinder to it. I fretted for over a week as to which route I wanted to take. I could not be more pleased with the results.
