Side Burner Side Lock Question

Hello all,
I think I have a genesis 3000, at least that’s what the serial number check on the Weber website says it is. However, I cannot find the schematic for the particular model I have. If I did, I probably wouldn’t be asking this question.

The question is why am I missing a slot on my side burner for the front side burner bracket? I have a bracket on the back side of the burner, but not the front. Every schematic I have looked at shows two brackets, front and back. What am I missing?

I have seen a side burner install directions stating that “your model may only have one bracket”. I am assuming I have one of those models.

I just find it hard to believe that the burner is just held on by only one bracket in the back. Or is there another attachment point on the burner that I am missing? If only the one bracket then the burner just floats on the frame.

Any help with this will be appreciated.

It wont be totally secure, but it will keep it from rattling around when moving and using the grill. It makes them tooless and easy to remove unlike bolting them into the grill.
 
So I just double checked and my Genesis 3 has one clip on the back of the side burner and my Genesis 3000 has two clips one in the front and one in the back. Making it more secure.

The Genesis 3 doesn't have the slit in the front of the side burner to receive a clip so I know it's not just missing.

It's just odd. It's not like the ones with only one clip were flopping around and weren't secure. Those clips don't appear to be interchangeable, so now there are two different ones. It would be interesting to know if there's a hole in the frame for a second clip on your grill that only has one.

Mind you the grill is in pretty rough shape and is a bit wobbly but I just can’t imagine that one bracket will make the burner secure enough. It may be that the slot on the burner pan is sloppy. I’m almost at tempted to put a slot on the front side, the same as the back and add another bracket. I’m worried I’d screw it up though. It would be a tough cut to make precisely. Once I get everything back together we’ll see how it fits.

Anyways, I’m just starting getting into more intensive rehabbing just for fun so I don’t know a lot. I have a lot of questions and I can find a lot of answers for topics already discussed or I can just ask a question and almost instantly get an answer. That really awesome. I appreciate all of your help and advice.

There has to be two different brackets. They have to be sym opp. I only can find the rear one for sale. That flange that clips into the burner pan would need to be flipped 180

Paul, I would just leave it as is. Until today I didn't even know they made them both ways. The only ones I've come across were like yours and I never thought it would be better if there was another clip in the front. You may have to bend that clip a little bit to get it to fit more snugly in the slot on the side burner.

I agree.
I would leave my Genesis 3 with the one clip it came with. It's secure. Yes the 2 clip on my 3000 is more secure but I think it's fine either way.
