Side burner broken?

Can anyone tell me what it’s missing here? Is it the spider guard that’s melted down there? Flames were coming out of that area where there was melted plastic. Is it just as simple as replacing that little piece?

I have seen that on other side burners where the plastic spider guard was melted. Not sure how it gets that hot down there. You will have to clean that spider guard off and replace it but likely the tube is clogged up and you will want to clean it out real well. If you cannot clean up all that melted plastic, you might be needing new parts.

The venturi tube is clogged and the flames are coming backward. Just remove the plastic. Not necessary and clean the tube and burner well

Lmichaels you were spot on. Maybe these are more than just “spider guards” lol

Same exact thing happened to me. Spider guard had melted a bit, and the wildlife moved in over the years. Had to go to town with HF tubing brushes to actually get the thing to light and burn clean.

Now my only issue is where the spark is coming from…

Oh, I thought he was wondering why it was sparking. If cleaning the electrode and burner don't work, you could try to bend the electrode at the top a little closer to the burner. Electricity always follows the easiest path and it might just be closer at the bottom.

Yeah it sparks, but it just does it at the bottom of the electrode so it doesn’t ignite the burner. I’ll mess with it later and see if I can clean it up some.
