I think my next go I will try par boiling the pasta and use a more mealty cheese and use more bacon to cover better and leave in the fridge over nite and maybe a spritz of cider a couple times. I agree with your description
 
They make a ready to bake dry lasagna sheets, wonder if they have the same with manicotti?
Those work on the premise of having the sauce provide the moisture, the fix is really simple, add some water to the stuffing mix, let them sit overnight in the fridge, extra bacon will make them more greasy and increase cooking time to crisp up the bacon, I’ll stick with my method, thank you very much.
It’s another KISS method, I hate making things harder than necessary.
