Serial number question

I've got what I'm pretty sure is a 1996 Weber 900 NG grill. I deduced the 1996 by the 2 letter code in the serial number, but there are only five digits (it looks like there could be one that's faded away over time, but it doesn't feel like there's anything that's worn away. I've tried to confirm that it's a 900 by using the Weber support site, but the site says that there should be more than five digits after the two letters. Maybe it's because the grill is so old. Any help would be appreciated. IMG_1251.jpg
 
Glennie, I see here sometimes people asking if there is a serial number sticker on the underside of the control panel. There might be another one there.
 
Richard, there is another sticker underneath the burner control panel. Unfortunately, there's nothing written or printed in any of the fields indicating the model number or serial number.
 
It looks to me like your serial number is: ER 028x57
Try registering it with each of the ten digits for the 'x'.
Sometimes there is a serial number on the manifold as well.
 
No combination of ER 028x57 is a valid s/n.

I think it's ER 280x57 or 286x57.

ER 280057, 280157, 280257 are Genesis 1000 LX LP Black.
ER 280357 is Genesis 1000 LX NG Black.
ER 280457, 280557 are Genesis 700 LP Black.
ER 280657 is Platinum I 1200 KD LP Black Canada.
ER 280757 is invalid.
ER 280857, 280957 are Genesis 1000 LP Black.

ER 286057, 286157, 286257 are Genesis 1000 LP Black.
ER 286357 is Genesis 900 LP Black.
ER 286457, 286557 are Genesis 900 NG Black. <--- DING! DING! DING!
ER 286657, 286757, 286857, 286957 is Genesis 2000 LX LP Black.

Chris, how are you checking those numbers without actually submitting the grill for registration?
