Hey I’m Jeff, I’ve had a kettle for 20 years and also a Masterbuilt gravity 800 for the last 5. I saw a genesis 1000 on Facebook today, and it really hit me with nostalgia. My dad had one when I was a kid. Couldn’t pass it up so now it’s in my backyard. Needs a good cleaning, but it works great. I’m in southern Maryland

Patience will be the MOST critical thing for the rehab.
Remember, the enamel is NOT paint, it’s glass so, flat blade scraping with a razor blade beats coarse abrasives. I really feel like I’ve had good results with 4x0 steel wool and simple green or even Windex (final polish) treat it like glass and you will be fine with the lid, go slowly and take your time. Your patience will be rewarded!

Welcome to the forum Jeff. It could just be that picture but it looks like you could use a new set of burner tubes, those flames look pretty uneven. You can try cleaning them to open up the gas flow better of course.
