Seasoning Cast Iron on the Summit, Much Easier

Chuck, I just looked, it's still a 5 qt Dutch oven with the set for $63.99. Sorry I can't post a link for you, as I'm using my kindle right now.

Hi Mary and everyone,
is this the link you are looking for? :)
I planned to buy this set but of course they do not ship to me. I also tried USPS but find $130+ only the shipping itself... I think I need to move :D. No kidding...

Hi Peter! Yes, that's the set...
My offer still stands Peter... If you'd like, I'll check to see if I can send a gift to Budapest under my prime.

I thought the same thing. I don't care about the collectibility but there's no way a wire brush will smooth the bottom of my lodge pan. Now if you want to remove a little rust or grime, that would do a good job. My old pans are of the era you speak of when the manufactures machined/surfaced the skillets.

Here he does the start to finish on a new Lodge. He uses a stainless wire brush and does mention that this will not make it perfectly smooth, just take off the roughest parts... This method with the wheel, the oven and the Crisco worked very well for me as a starter. I've used my Lodges a lot after treating them and they improve with each cook. And I use a stainless spatula or spoon with mine and I am purposely rough with them.

One of mine going through the oven/Crisco thing:

Not smooth, but quite better than new...

Also a tip from his videos, I use this to clean the crud off the pans. Works very well without removing the seasoning:

Best,

Mary, thank you. Let's have a try. If you can ask the total shipping cost to Budapest I can make a decision... You can send the answer in PM... Unfortunately I do not know the dimensions, only the weight if one can trust Amazon... Shipping weight is 27 pounds...
Thx.

Wow, thank you Mary. Now I have to make the tough choice...Hold out for the 7QT or get a great price on CI, but with a 5QT. Gotta admit, it's very tempting. Thanks again!

Well, after 6 coats of flax oil and resisting the temptation of using them, I think I'll try cooking an egg on one of them. They look great but the bottoms still aren't as smooth as I would like them to be. If I don't see the results I'm looking for, I'll take some rollock discs to them.. Then try again...
