Seasoned salt instead of rub

I did a small butt yesterday. When I went to season it,I found out I was out of rub and rub fixings! Then I spied the lowrys and said what the hey. Rubbed it with that, set it on there, and 9 hours later had a delicious hunk o meat! Has anyone else tried this?

no i havn't but I like Lowry's very much. but was wandering what it was like in more detail? not to salty huh? thanks have a good one.

My guess is that you woulden't use it like you would a rub, where you cover the meat completely with it. Instead treat it as if you were salting the meat, and lightly sprinkle it. I dont know if I'd ever try it, but then again I'm not a big salt fan.

Phil, I am glad the season salt worked ok. Don't be afraid to make your own rub. You may be very pleased with what you come up with.

most of the time, all you need is a little salt. so seasoned salt is a little more complex than table salt.

but take any piece of meat, apply salt and pepper, and it won't taste so bad, know what i'm saying?

I hear you. It wasn't too salty, had a great smoke ring, and was very moist!! I've made a couple of rubs using recipes from this site with varying degrees of success. This was just what I had on hand at the last minute. Thanks for the feed back!
