Searwood 600: assembly and first cook (0-400 wings)

After reading on here and watching a million YouTube videos, I got a Weber Searwood 600.

Assembly was not bad, although I had the benefit of my neighbor's ratchet to turn the several Allen screws. Some were difficult, even with the ratchet, and would have been exhausting and hand-crippling to tighten using the little Allen key Weber provides. One YouTuber had tipped me to this in an assembly video where he cursed the key, which was rounding off on him.

Watching assembly videos and using the Bilt app instructions for the Searwood helped a lot. I took my time, and it took me two hours from opening the box to power on. With the benefit of that experience, I could probably do another one now in about half the time.

This assembly video, made by a grill dealer, was helpful. All of their videos that I watched were well done.

Did the 30 minute burn in at 450, and all worked well.

I was the only one home the next night, so the first cook was a few 0-400 chicken wings. I had just watched The Basement Hangout guys (love their videos) ruin some wings trying this method (but not sticking to the recipe), so I'm not sure why I decided to do it anyway, but it worked for me.

Seasoned the wings with Kinder's Red Jalapeno Garlic seasoning mix. I usually use my own rub/seasoning mixes, but Kinder's is a commercial vendor I really like. Every one of their products I have tried has been high quality.

Put the wings on the top rack of a cold grill. (Should have oiled the grate.) Set the grill for 400, and set a 30 minute timer. Flipped the wings at 30 minutes, and set another 30 minute timer. I did peek and flip again midway through the final 30, but I otherwise never lifted the lid.

They turned out great, and it was a good way to learn how to operate the Weber app, timer feature, etc.

This sounds like a Kinder's commercial, but I ate some wings dry (the seasoning blend had great flavor), some with Kinder's BBQ sauce, and most dunked in a ranch dip (made with Kinder's packet mix and Greek yogurt instead of the sour cream they call for) that I thinned with some milk to more of a dressing consistency for wing dipping. The Kinder's ranch mix is good but strong on the garlic, so be warned.

I finally broke down and opened a Imgur account. First photo hosting account I've had since Photobucket bit the dust. Looks like Imgur worked, but the photos appear in this thread in the reverse order I added them.

TVWBB gave me a "not allowed" type message when I tried to post using the Imgur-provided links. Had to right click and use "copy image address" to get it to work. Maybe I need to change a setting or something. I may also need to figure out how to reduce the size of the images. Any tips?

Great looking wings. Congrats on the Searwood. I love mine. The holidays are approaching, so build your wish list of accessories and pimp that sucker out. 🤣

I think you will love the Searwood. I tried 0-400 wings a couple weeks ago on my Z Grill (Big Z). They were incredible. FWIW there is no need to use Imgur. You can simply upload your photos directly to the site from either your phone, tablet, or computer. Using a hosting site simply ads complication and if/when the hosting site doesn't want to host it anymore it disappears from every place you post it
