Amazing --

Spatchcocked and brined a 6 lb chicken. Used one of Stogie's Jerk Paste (from the poultry recipies section of the Forum) recipies as a start (of course, was missing a few ingredinets and had to substitute, also added some lime juice, smelled wonderful).

Went out and started a lump fire, just like I did last Christmas for a 20 lb turkey. Was going to see what the Ramp Mode did on the Guru. Too much fire (leaky WSM) so I cut the Guru shutter off and cut the top vent back.

Obviously a spatchcocked chicken is going to cook faster than a 20 lb whole turkey, DUH! Obvously you do not need a ring full of charcoal! And, now that I have the fire under control, the chicken should finish in another 20 minutes or so, for a total cook time of about 2 hours.

Sooooo..... with all that fire going on in there, what's going on next?

Sorry, couldn't resist...

The Yardbird was WONDERFUL! Moist, flavorful, not bad for being WAY behind schedule the whole way. I think we have another winner.

With regard to whats cooking -- With Mom probably dealing with another mini-stroke (severely crossing words; good linear thinking on the main subject but pulling in the wrong words for the conversation) while I am cooking (sent the bride to inspect; she suspects that diagnosis is correct but Mom does not appear to be majorly incapacitated; covering well) the cook is cooked on about 1/3 the usual amount.

We think the fire is going out -- pit is down to 250 after an hour.

Off to check on Mom again, this time I am riding along despite the fact that my judgement might be impaired.

Sounds leaky to me. I know I have to put mine together the right/same way every time or it leaks. I have to line the middle up to the pit the right way. Weber sent me a new middle section, but I havent changed the straps over yet to use it.
I hope all works out well with Mom!

Mom is just a problem that we have to vent on occasionally. The sisters (one lives in the state of DENIAL and the other is too much like her mother) are doing their best, but, I seem to handle the problems better than they do. (Sometimes with exessive amounts of beer.)

Yeah, I have a leaky pit; I have not found the combination like you have.
