School Me on Weber Gas Grills....

So I have always had a charcoal grill, and I bought a Char Broil Infra-red grill about 5 years ago and it has really been a GREAT grill. It's not one of those infrareds that had the terrible grates that always rusted, I somehow bought the only style that had ceramic grates. Thats beside the point, the biggest problem I have with that grill, you dont get flame kissed meat, as it has a barrier between burner and grates. I have been yearning for an actual "normal" gas grill to add to my collection. I see alot of you refurbishing older Weber gas grills and this has led me to questions

1. Are Weber gas grills made better than most others on the market? or is Weber just one of the only manufacturers that make replacement parts?

2. What are "flavor bars"? Are they just a fancy name for grates that Weber uses? Or are they something different?

3. What models are which? (Genesis, E-series, Spriti, etc...) WHat should I be looking for? I am definitely looking for used. Chances are this will be my only gas grill acquisition for the forseable future. I have tried looking for a model by model history online but haven't really come up with anything

4. Any additional info would be amazing. More info is always better.

Thank You all for your input and help.

A lot will be dependent on how much and what type of cooking you would like to do but some general answers
to number 1. Older ones yes. The "new" ones IMO not so much though they do have pretty good customer service.
To number 2. Flavorizer bar is just a term Weber coined for the angled metal "tents" that protect the burners and ostensibly spread the heat in the grill.
To number 3. "E" series is typically just nomenclature Weber applies to a grill that is not stainless steel. IOW the lid and most other parts like doors and control panels are made from porcelain enameled steel and the grates/flavorizer bars are not stainless. The Genesis line I think is the most popular and IMO the old original style of that grill is the best. They will be models such as Genesis I, II, III or 1000, 2000, 3000. The models that followed and went to A, B and C were OK but not as well performing IMO. The big daddy is the Summit line these are typically 4 or 6 main burner grills and may/may not have infrared rotisserie burner and smoker burner. Another thing IMO if you enjoy doing rotisserie, find a Genesis with E/W burners i.e. control knobs on the right side of the grill not in front. Or a Summit that has an infrared rear burner. They also have a smaller line called the Spirit. Pretty much the older ones were the old style A,B,C Genesis simply made in China. The new Spirit line is actually a separate grill family all together now.
Anyway read around here and you'll see some good write ups and for those who can figure out how to do it on this convoluted site some great photos posted. Understand too this is pretty much a "Weber fan" site so you may not get much advice on other brands that while they may be as good or better many members just don't know a lot about. Not a bad thing just something you need to be aware of. If you want advice on more than just Weber you might look into this site also http://www.bbqsource-forums.com/invboard/index.php?act=idx good folks there too (some members of both like myself). It has more information on more brands. Not wanting to "steer you" just opening your horizons a little
Have fun!

This is a listing of some parts I have up for sale to help TVWBB scroll down and you will see some flavorizer bars in the listing.
Many folks have refurbed or restored the older Genesis grills I have one that I just updated to a 2000 from a 1000.
