Simply yes!For the cost of that gizmo you would be better off buying a used kettle. If you have the space for one.
That'd be great for someone who only has a gas grill or maybe limited space and wants something versatile.
Weber did about 40-50 years ago and it was a total flop.I always have to chuckle when I see folks trying to convert their gas to cook like charcoal. No one goes the other way![]()
no room for one and with owning pellet grill no real need either. Until maybe when I get my lower patio (concrete patio) doneFor the cost of that gizmo you would be better off buying a used kettle. If you have the space for one.
I knew I had seen this before. Forgot it was on a NapoleonThere is also this cast iron unit by Napoleon it has been out for a while and is $49.99 on Amazon.com
I think that was simply TH improvising ideasWell, that looks like a pretty beefy CI tray for only $49. The video says to place the tray directly on the burners....But, it looks like the holes are on the top of the burners. Wouldn't that be an issue? Another observation is that it seems they do the grilling completely with the coal on this unlike the other system where they still used the gas burners on the other side.

It looks like the stainless one from the video keeps the ash contained. But not the cast iron onePretty cool. If you generally like gas but want the option to do some coal burning once in a while, that is a pretty neat system. Is there any concerns with the ash in the cook box?
I'm betting most people couldn't taste any difference between food cooked using that expensive gizmo and one of these wood chip boxes that have been around forever or foil wrapped wood chips stabbed with a fork.
