Royal Oaks Hot briquettes

I bought my first bag of Royal Oak briquettes. I thought it cooked a lot hotter than the Kingsford. Has anyone else noticed this. I know lump cooks a little hotter. The handle on the kettle was a lot hotter than it normally is.

what exactly are you saying not sure i got that, but im curious, im also curious as to these complaints of kingsford lately as well, what else can i use briquette wise? er, what maybe you'de all recommend.

well, there is royal oak, sams choice which is made by royal oak, dura flame, regional stuff available at yer local markets and restaurant stores.

I bought four bags and ended up taking them back as there was something wrong with them. Had pieces of wood in them, burned very fast and created tons of ash, much more thank Kingsford. Back to Rancher for me!

I've had success with their lump.

I just bought two bags of Kingsford and it cooked as consistently as usual. No issues here. Did they put out a bad batch?

paul, how much experiance with kingsford do you have ? larry, did you try another bag of ro made in the states? i responded on the other discussion but you didn't respond.

i use kingsford and royal oak lump consistently. RO burns hotter but lasts shorter. For short hot cooks like beer can chicken, turkey breast use RO, for longer (ribs, butt) use kingsford.

Both are great

Hi George, nah just took them back. I've got 20 + bags of Rancher with more on the way so I figured I'd just let this one go.

Wasn't really a complaint against Kingford only a difference in temps. I noticed the Royal Oak birquetts cooked a lot hotter than Kingford. Wondered if others noticed. Good thing when you want higher temps.

For lump I use EL MAS CARBON mesquite 3.99 for a 6.6lb bag at Winn Dixe. I normally use it on the kettle but have used it in the wsm.

Mainly I use Kingsford in the wsm with some baseball size chunks of wood for flavor.

Lump seems too have the least amount of ash. Seems I am always dumping ashes no mattere what I use speaking of that the Kettle needs dumping now.

George/Toby, actually when I wrote that I have "more on the way" I was referring to Ed has contacted The original charcoal company and arranged to purchase at minimum a pallet of Rancher, he's just working out the details of getting it here (Fresno); thus I know I'll be getting more so no need to buy RO that didn't work out for me for the same price as I'll be getting more rancher for $4.99 a bag that I know works great. In short, no more rationing Rancher, YEA!!!

Toby, if you're interested in getting some let Ed or I know. It will be delivered to Fresno so you'd have to come up and pick it up, or I'd be happy to bring it down with me on one of my trips to the office . . . although I can only fit 10 bags in the trunk of my car.

Let us know . . .
