hey toronto area q'ers
my mom just got back from grocery shopping and told me she saw 10# bags of Royal Oak lump (product of usa in blue bag) charcoal for $7.99 at First Choice Supermarket. it is a chinese supermarket located near the Kennedy Rd & 14th Ave area in markham. 7866 kennedy road to be exact.

I'm in Etobicoke and RO Lump is all I can find around here. Can't find Kingsford Briquettes anywhere. Bought 3 bags of RO last weekend at the convenience store around the corner but don't know what they cost.

Home Depot only has cheapie lump right now.

Royal Oak is at Canadian Tire too, for a pretty good price. I think about the same as jason's place.

If there's a Rona nearby, you can get Maple Leaf lump for about $17/big bag or Maple Leaf natural briquettes for a couple bucks less. it ain't cheap, but I like the quality.

Good thread. If anyone finds wicked deals, good info to pass along.

Just looked at my RO bags and they are only 5lb. Filling the ring and 3/4 chimney takes less than a full bag so I still can't see how some people get 10lbs or more in up front for a single cook (Minion).

I'm doing my first overnighter (9lb brisket, 4th ever WSM cook) Friday night with the RO so I'll see what I get from that and report back.

Try Ontario Gas BBQ (Vaughan) or Barbecues Galore (Burlington, Oakville) in your area for a much better selection of charcoal.

Jason, two very important things to do BEFORE you head out to Ontario Gas BBQ.

1) Empty your trunk, or better yet
2) Borrow a buddy's pickup

Trust me, you'll need the room...

Their charcoal room is a sacred place indeed. Have fun.

Consider Ontario Gas BBQ like the CNE. You'll go with an expectation of what you'll spend but leave spending double.

Also, you'll have a much better time on a weekday.

I noticed in the flyers yesterday that TSC Stores have 2 bucks off the big bag of RO. I think they are like 13.99 right now. Not a steal but better than a kick in the pants.

I love my Maple Leaf and Basques but I save 5-6 bucks a bag on RO so its a hard sell.

Try your local Home Hardware </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

speaking of home hardware, they had a bunch of charcoal listed on their website but recently removed them all. anyone know why? are they planning on not stocking charcoal any longer?
