RIP Roger Craig - SF Giants Manager 85-92

He was before my time being a Giants fan. I was a Yankee fan, until they built the Giants new ball park.

Yankees fan? But why?!?!?!
I only rooted for the Yankees once. Cost me 3 months of hot lunch money thanks to the Pirates! Saw a lot of games at Fenway, but the Red Sox always lost so I never really latched onto them. After that I did expansion teams, Mets, Angels, and finally the Blue Jays.

These last few years, they've had a few stumbles, a lot of injuries and weak bullpen. But I keep an eye on them, because if I move to KY or TN, I'm tossing my SF hats for NYY hats :)

Oh man I enjoyed having him for our manager.
I remember him using Kruk as a pinch hitter at a game I went to in Candlestick.
Kruck roped one like in the 14th to keep the extra endings going.

What was the name of that pitch he liked his guys to use.
Split finger finger something or or other?

Split finger. When I think of Roger I think of Will Clark and Robby Thompson and that era of great Giants baseball, the 89 World Series!! Kevin Mitchell!! I was 15 and hooked for life!!

I was living in Seattle at the time, but we'd go down to the Bay area often to see a certain rock and roll band - I remember in 1986 we were seeing the Dead at the Berkeley Community Theatre for a 4 night run - there were two shows, a day off, followed by two more. On the day off we headed to the Stick and saw Vida Blue's 200 career victory! We'd often pair a sporting event with a musical event - good times! RIP Roger......
