I have a WSM 18.5 and was wondering what the capacity is for ribs (BB v Spares) on this model using both grates. ive been curling them (BB), but was thinking i could get more on if i cut them in two.

And does anyone have issues with the lower grated cooking at a different rate?

I'm sure this has been discussed so any thread links would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

I have the 22.5 one but I'm willing to bet you could find a couple rib racks that'll fit both grates which'll hold plenty. Good luck man.

I have the 18 and with a rib rack can easily get 3 racks of spares on a grate and believe five is possible if needed. There's no reason to curl IMO.

Yeah i dont dig the curling. So im presuming your halving the racks? so thats 3 rack per grate (5 possible)? thats 6-10 racks a spares. Impressive i'd like to see a pic of that.

Thanks.

I have added tabs for an extra grate on my 18.5 but best I can do that way is 6 racks. With a hover grill I can get two more so 8 racks as long as I cut them in half. Coiling them is rather a neat presentation at least around these parts nobody has ever seen it done before. Granted I use a dry rub, no foil when coiling. If I use four grill racks and cut them I can foil.

I really don`t see anything wrong with coiling them. It all depends on your preference in the finish.

No full racks. There is enough room for the rack in the middle to be propped up straight and the ends of the others will curve a little with no effect on the end product.

6 racks cut in half on two grates

I've used my Charcoal Companion 6 slot roaster/rib rack like that many times with St. Louis ribs on my 18". Works great! Not really enough room on that rack and my Weber racks for the 3 pound loinbacks that the big stores are selling nowadays, though. Rolling and skewering probably the best way to go with those thick slabs or for more than six slabs.
