Reverse Minion Method?

Anyone ever used the "reverse" minion method? Hot coals first then unlit coals on top of the lit ones? When do you add your wood? And where? How was the result?

Plus anyone have the "Smoking Jacket" by the BBQ Guru? Do you like it?

Thanks! Go Packsburgh!

I do it when I cook ribs..but I also do the Minion Method from time to time. Depends on my mood.
I add my wood when all the coals are gray, around the center, in a circle.
I get excellent to fair results, depending on the amount of beer consumed, and the amount of attention paid the smoker. :-)

Don't have any of the other stuff.

reverse? how do the coals know? 6 of 1, 1/2 dz the other.

I think last time i dumped a chimney of coals in the ring and then added a lot of cold with the chunks on top.

I decided to go with the regular Minion Method. It had just snowed 6 inches and I put a full chimney of coals on a full ring of unlit with a quart or two of hot water. The WSM went to about 250 in 10 minutes. Got up to near 300. I put 6 slabs of Baby Backs on the top grate using ribs racks. Adjusted the vents to keep it between 210 and 230. 4 hours later - all done. They were very, very good. a Super Bowl party hit. Here's the link to photos.

The only diff i see is u get a longer burn time with the lit on top as to the lit on the bottom.

I have a feeling somebody's ready to set the hook.

I think you'd get a quicker, shorter burn, which would be fine for some chicken.

I've never tried it, but the charcoal shouldn't burn as clean....HMMMm..Use some lump with a "reverse MM" and no wood and see what we get on chicken? I don't think I'd use K blue though.
