Replacement Cook Box Nut for Summit 450 a poor fit

Chris. Those nuts are designed for the end caps that have the cast aluminum studs that they screw onto. The ones that fit the bolts with actual threads are a bit smaller. I think you might even be able to use a regular hex nut on them and I am pretty sure they are 1/4", If it was me, I would get some SS nuts and use them. Here is what I use: https://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Details.aspx?product=7403

And I replace those black bolts with these: https://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Details.aspx?product=10505

It gives the outside of the grill a tough look.

Yeah, I was thinking about using s/s nuts but decided the speed nuts or whatever these things are called would be more original. But at this juncture, I may end up with nuts. Many of the originals are rusting away.

I want to stick with the original bolts for an original look if I can.

Chris: I am almost positive those flange nuts will fit the factory bolts and the wider base on them is probably a good idea with the lid to keep it from cracking the porcelain...otherwise you would use a washer. I am sure you can pick those nuts up at most hardware stores.

I just bought a box of these as replacements on my Summit 450 and I don't like the fit. It's sloppy, not precise like the original. You can see the difference in these photos.

Chris, I went to Fastenal and another local shop and was not able to get the exact fit for those nuts either. I ended up soaking them in Evaporust for a few days and wire brushing them by hand. I was pretty happy how they turned out.
