All you need to do is slide a screwdriver between the wheel and the foot and the caster will pop right out.
Getting the square foot insert out is a bit harder..... thankfully I've never had to get one out myself.
A new caster will pop right back in.

In my case I need to remove the entire assembly including the insert. I was able to successfully get it out (a little rough) by using a hammer and chisel, bit by bit.
However, knowing for the future that the caster itself can pop out of its housing that easily is great!
