Remote Access with MyFritz (FritzBox)

Hello out there,

I started in late 2014 and built my HeaterMeter 4.2.4 succesfully. Everything works fine, but now I like to setup the remote access. As I got a Fritzbox 7390 and Frotz Box st offering a DDNS service I like to use this, but until now I can't get it fixed.

I am no computer noobie, but I never struggled with network problems. So, could anybody explain me wath to do?

As I red, I have three points to set some parameters in.

The HeaterMeter:
here I have to put in an "update-url", a "Hostname", an "Username" and a "Password". Where can I find the Hostname and the "update.url"?

The FritzBox:
Here are different ways I think: One is the option of MyFritz (the FritzBox DNS-Service) to give a local machine a clearance and the other option ist port forwarding. What is the correct way?

My mobile:
What adress do I have to put in here, to access my HeaterMeter?
 
You do realize that the HM already has support for Dynamic DNS through a variety of FREE services worldwide, right? There's tons and tons of them.

Sounds like you're trying to solve a problem that's already been solved. Do a search on these forums, there's plenty of DDNS remote access info. It's as easy as installing the package/module within the interface, then entering your DDNS service details and hitting enter.
 
Thanks Nick... The HeaterMeter is documented very well, but in case of network things I am missing some further information, because I can't get it fixed. There are so many varieties here in the forum... Fixed IP, DHCP, Port forwarding etc. As I understand, you know everything in case of HeaterMeter and network. So, you can help me perhaps:

I have created an no-ip.com account now. Do I just have to configure the HeaterMeter like descriced HERE and do the port forwarding, or do I have to set up the DDNS within my Router?
 
Your router (or other internet connection) is assigned an WAN (Wide Area Network) IP, otherwise known as your Internet IP address. Your router will assign a LAN (Local Area Network) IP to your HM when it connects. You need to use port forwarding on your router to forward Port 80 to the LAN IP of your HM, then to access your HM from outside of your network you connect to the INTERNET IP from above and your router will forward the request to the LAN IP of your HM and you will connect.

Using a no-ip.com account/address is just an easy way to remember the LAN IP and keep the LAN IP up to date when it changes (as most internet connections have dynamic IP's that may or may not change regularly, depending on the internet service provider) If you want to find out what your Internet IP is at any given moment just go to http://whatismyip.com from a computer on your network and it will show you your internet IP. You can use this IP to connect to your HM (instead of a no-ip.com domain link) as long as it is current.

Some routers or internet service providers will block the use of port 80, in that case you should go ahead and add a second port for the HM to listen to and port forward to that port instead, for instance port 8080 (instead of just 80 which may be blocked). Here is a link to a thread where I pass on the info you need to add that listening port to your HM if need be.

I fixed it! I just followed the wiki using my noip.com account and it works. The problem was, that I thought I had to do more than it's written... RTFM :cool: I think I confused myself by reading too much here and elsewhere.
