Remembrance Day


 
The draft was ended in 1973,with registering ending in '75.


I just turned 16 in '73, and I thought I was headed to Vietnam until I found out the draft had ended.

My grandfather fought in WWI and came back shell-shocked. My father served in the army during WWII, but the war was over by the time he got to Italy. His unit was responsible for digging up landmines and unexploded ordinance.

Hats off to those that served, even if it is a day late.
 
Resurrecting this thread again, as today is Remembrance Day here. (I believe it's Veterans Day in the U.S.).

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Agreed!

I saw an article on Turner Classic Movies recently, and it outlined the sacrifice made by the allied nations during the war - especially in the UK, where they faced much more shortages of basic goods than we did.
