Too bad you parted with it, I have cooked up a cool "original" mod I will be introducing soon. You will be amazed at how roomy the 18 actually can be. Coming soon.......

interesting....

I must confess, I've never cooked on a 18.5 kettle, yet.
SJ to Rancher, yes.

Just gave my old yellow 18.5 a lick and a promise, paint wise, and a new cook grate.
Hope to put it into service tomorrow for something more than a place to put a hot chimney, etc.

Should work out nice for spuds, and other sides, to free up space on the Performer.

Sounds good Bob, please post a few shots of it in action. Here's my method, get one charcoal basket filled and set it inside for indirect cooking. You will notice there is still room on the bottom grate to fit more if needed. I put some chicken parts like thighs slightly elevated over a drip pan on bottom and some veggies indirect on top. These things are pretty roomy when used this way.

I use my 18.5 for just a couple sausages, brats, hotdogs or if I'm only cooking 3 burgers or less. (We make monster size patties) Basically if I'm just cooking for me and my Wife or feeling Old School (its a'60s redhead). It gets used about every 3rd cook or so. My kids will cut their teeth with this one when they're old enough. It's also great for quick cooks. I usually use half the charcoal so the chimney heats quicker.
