Redhead Restore

Very nicely done yhe wood turned out great and with all the new parts in it that girl will last another 20 years or until they stop making propane.
Are you working the lid by hand or with a buffer?

To get out those light stains you can wet sand with 3000 grit with water and a little soap. Just a very light sanding then you can use a buffer I have and orbital sander with buffing pd head you can get the pads at harbor freight or on line use Meguirs 105 first moving very slow with good presure on the pad, move about 1 inch a second or so. Buffet then wipe off look at it in sun light or flashlight to see where you need to rework it.
Then go over with 205 polish. Wipe and I love using Meguirs Hybird Ceramic wax lasts along time and sun will not fade it.
As you can see by my truck 150k 2015 parks outside and I wax it using that 3 step once a year.

For wood stain I would go with Cutek. It won the best reviewed in a lot of places in terms of ease of application, longevity, wood protection and wear characteristic.
My deck was stained with Cutek and I am generally pleased.
You can buy a sample can for $10 which can be enough for the grill slats.
