I should have posted this story a couple weekends ago but just go to busy.
So after monthes of looking and searching for a red weber I came across a red performer on cl.It's not perfect but is ss and looked pretty decent. I figured for the $100 it was worth it. SO I text my good friend Pat Smith and ask if he would like to split the cost and we can pick it up while he is in town. He promptly replied yes. So on the tuesday he was visiting we took an hour drive and picked it up. Once back it was time to do the initial hh burn to get the nasties out. So seeing it ws missing the temp gauge, Pat takes one off another griil and puts it int eh top vent. As we are standing there yaking and drinking some cold ones we are watching the temp gauge go around once and satrat a secod trip around. On this trip the gauge reaches 150, comes flying out of the vent in 3 pieces, and lands on the ground. We looked at each other and had nothing more to say then, hmmm I guess we are hot enough, and proceded to shut it down. We figured we must have been around the 800-900 degree area. the temp gauage reads up to 475. When I get a couple extra moments I will post a picture of the temp gauge after we were able to pick it up.

I should point out that Steve and his family own the cottage next to our cottage on a small lake in Michigan. We get to stay at the cottage only for a couple of weeks during the summer, so the "shared custody" thing works well for us.

Here are some pics of our Red Performer. It is a 1992 "O" model - same model as the one I have here at home. The gas assist works fine except for the ignitor, so we had to light the gas assist with a lighter. The 5 lb tank was even full. We'll deal with what to do about it when it runs out somewhere down the road. The major issue with the Performer was the lid and the chipped porcelain at the handle. Looks like the handle might have been dropped at some point in the past. We'll sand and touch that up as best we can with some ulta-high temperature paint. I had a new stainless steel hinged cooking grate on hand so we were good to go.

The black kettle in the background is another of Steve's finds - a three-wheeler that he picked up for us for $5.00.

This is the "Lake Family" of Webers:

And this was what we cooked to christen the new Redhead - nothing like the Porterhouse steaks from the General Store!

She looks great fellas!
Glad no one was hurt by the shrapnel!

Broke her in right too with those Porterhouses!

Come on Pat, we've all seen raw steaks, pic-up some grilled ones
