Recommendations on meat thermometers?

I just received my first WSM yesterday. I assembled it last night and am having a hard time waiting until the weekend to try it out. I think I'll survive though.

I wanted to know if anyone has a thermometer they swear by? I would like to get one that is wireless so I can have it in the house and still know the temperature of the WSM or the meat. I'd also like one that has an alarm that goes off if the temp is outside of a certain range.

Any recommendations?
 
Maverick ET-73 which will give you what you're looking for, with a meat and pit probe and a remote that will alarm to your preset temperatures that you can carry in the house.

An often asked question.

Two top choices for a remote thermometer are the Maverick ET-73 and the Nu-Temp

Many have have the ET-73 and are happy. I have the Nu Temp and it does the job well also.

Some people have range troubles with the ET-73 but it does monitor high and low, whereas with the Nu Temp you need to use two units to get this feature.

I have Guru Eyelets on both of my WSM and have used them ONCE. I just put the wires bewteen the lid and body. As long as you don't slam the lid directly on the wires, it will not harm a thing.
 
Interesting and thanks for the reply. Is running the wires through the top vent a no no due to ristricting the air flow?

On a side note, I didn't realize until recently that you sold rub. I'd definitely like to try it out. What's the ordering process?

Not at all Clay, I run the 'Pit' probe through the top vent exclusively. Just to the point where the wire meets the probe.

ET-73 and a Thermapen...I had one ET go bad after a couple of months and Amazon replaced it no questions, this one has lasted several years of abuse, including being left out in the rain with the insides soaked...I just left it alone to dry out opened up and it came back to life. I'd definitely buy another. As for the Thermapen, I love it....very quick.
 
I have the Guru eyelits and use them every time I use a thermo for the meat. My Thermo of choice is the Nu-Temp if not using the Guru. Nu-Temp has been going strong now for 6 years, never a problem. I'd buy em again in a heart beat.

What's the ordering process? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I installed one Guru eyelet on mine...I feed the meat probe through the eyelit, and hang the smoker probe in the top vent...that way I measure lid temp for the smoker and use that a baseline for all cooks, regardless of the rack used.
