Rebuilding Platinum Genesis using Summit parts

I have 2005 Genesis Platinum that I found on FB Marketplace. The bottom tray and sides were unfortunately shot. I have a wire rack that fits the bottom and now have it as an open cart. However, I recently saw Summit Platinum with 4 burner controls on FB, and it looks to me that its stainless steel sides and bottom tray would fit Genesis Platinum. This would make that grill absolutely perfect. Does anyone know if the Summit Platinum sides and bottom tray will fit Genesis Platinum?

I do not know, but that is an interesting observation. My first guess is that at least the Summit bottom would likely be deeper front to back, but it would be great if it would work.

@Bruce has fabricated aluminum replacement bottoms and I believe other cabinet parts for Platinum Genesis grills.

To be honest with you, if you have the bottom wire rack necessary to open cart it, I have found that you will have less problems with rust in the long run. I know from my experience that mine has lasted a lot longer with the open cart method.

Ultimately, wire rack will rust. I don't have the skill set or the tools to make aluminum bottom panel and would like to have an enclosure for keeping things out of sight.

I can understand that. This was why I removed the steal panels when I went the open cart method but if you find them used you will be right back where you started from. I believe Bruce's aluminum sheet replacement method is the best way to go for you if you want a rust proof cabinet.

The summit side panels are welded on the Summit Platinums. At least on this one they are, so I assume the 4 burners are as well. I haven’t measured yet, but to the naked eye they look the same depth, front to back) as a Genesis.

I have always wanted to rescue one of those Summit Platinums, but it has never worked out. I had no idea the side panels were welded on!
