Quick way to check propane level in your tank

I used to do that when I had just one tank and it works fairly well.

Now I have four tanks connected all the time and a total of six tanks. I really don't pay to much attention to them anymore as two are on the performers to light the coals and have been for over two years without a refill. One is on the silver kettle gasser which uses very little and the other on my 2000LX which hasn't been used much but now will be used a lot more for the griddle. Along with two full spares I'm never caught short if I run out.

When we are going to go to Costco I lift all of the four in use and I can tell by the weight about how much is in the tank and if I feel it's low I put a full spare on and take the tank to Costco for a fill up.

Just weigh it. The "tare" weight is listed on the tank handle (empty weight) depending how close you are to tare will tell you how little is in the tank

Interesting, however, there's really no substitute for keeping a spare on hand. If you buy the prefilled tanks, you want to run them to zero anyway. If you have a place that fills them up, unless they charge by the unit (gallon), you want to be on empty there too. The place near me used to charge by the gallon or pound or something, but then they went to charging by the tank - no matter how much they put in. So if you're going to run a tank to empty, you need to have one ready to go as it's not like it's going to run out between cooks. :)
