Question about 18.5 OTG

I ordered an ash catcher assembly to convert my 1998 silver to a gold. Unfortunately, today I flipped mine over and discovered that the leg sockets aren't welded to the kettle so that the gaps line up correctly to accept the ash catcher. Does anyone know if newer kettles were manufactured differently? Or did weber weld the leg sockets different for gold models?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike! On the kettles made before 2000, the leg sockets more often than not do not line up perfectly, sometimes you get lucky and they do, but fear not, you can bend the tabs that go into the slots "backwards" and use hose clamps to attach to the sockets.

Like here on a OTS I turned into a gold for a project.
