Q1400 - to but or not to buy

Hi, HNY all. I could get an electric Q1400 for £144 here in the uk (brand new from a national retailer). I was wondering if that would make s sound investment for quick mid week cooks for the 2 of us at that price? I currently have a Q1000 and a Spirt 3 burner but I find that the Q1000 uses up those little gas canisters annoying fast.

This isn't a necessary purchase but rather because of the price!

I am also holding on to see if the Searwood is going to be released in the UK this year.

£144

What's that in dollars?

"to but or not to buy"

too late to correct that? 🥰

The Q1400 takes a long time to heat up and heat back up after opening. You likely will not like it as well as the Q1000 as far as cooking goes. If I were you, I would either do a regulator delete and conversion to the bulk tank on the 1000 or just purchase the readily available adapter hoses to run it off a bulk tank. I have used both extensively. IMO, the Q1400 is a good choice for those that are not allowed open flame grills or those that just don't want to deal with the propane canisters, either small or large.

Seriously, if you really want a "no fuel" grill, look into a Ninja Woodfire (either the standard size or the ProXL if you want smart functions). I got this one about 2 weeks ago, and have been nothing but amazed with it's abilities. So much so, I will likely be selling off my Q320. See my threads on it in the pellet grill section here.

This is starting to look like a really good option for lots of people

Larry, How do you think that would compare to the Weber Pulse 2000

IDK. The XL model I have has about 90% the "usable" space as my Q320, it's faster, cleaner and easier to upkeep, more versatile as well even being able to "cold smoke". Actually has a cold smoke setting whereby you load the pellets in, it only activates the pellet igniter and the fan, allowing for a full cold smoke function, honestly the more I use the thing the more amazed I get.
I mean look at the crust I got on that cowboy. And without the insane amount of heat or fuel burn I see from people using charcoal or gas fired grills. Admittedly WAY more than my liking but certainly in wheel house of many folks here from what I see.
And when done, I simply pull the grate off and soak it in the sink with some dish soap, and it's perfect again.
I mean show me anything else you can do so much with in such a compact well engineered space.
Yeah it's not the be all/end all. I still prefer my pellet pits for things but when it's brutally cold out, you want some Q it sure makes life simpler. Plus I can carry it out to the garage, set up a small table, and go to town

Larry, I am very glad that you are having such a good experience with your Ninja. When it first came out, a lot of us were skeptical about it being not much more than a griddle with ridges. Seems like they came up with an effective way to offer a good variety of cooking and decent smoke flavor in a small footprint. Even apartment and condo friendly.

The smaller, non-WIFI models go pretty cheap on the used market. Do you think for someone just wanting it for cooking for two or three people and who doesn't have to have WIFI that the small one has any merit?

Oh, sure. You look at some of the videos of what people are doing with it and you'd be amazed. So, sure. Find one cheaply enough? Grab one. Worst case you want to move up? You're out very little if anything. I was getting ready to move my Q320 back to the deck, and quite honestly think I am done with it. It's more trouble to work with and care for than it's worth to me.
