Pulled pork and BBQ sauce???

I made about 30 pounds of pulled pork a while back and freezer bagged a lot of it. Well now I am in the mood for a bag or so however, the home made sauce that I usually make is gone and I don't want to make a whole batch of sauce for just a small bag of pulled pork... My sauce takes a bit to make and makes a lot at a time.

My question is I am thinking of just using some store bought bbq sauce from the bottle to eat with it.

What is a good BBQ sauce out of the bottle to go with pulled pork? I have heard something about KC Masterpiece mixed with honey 1/2 and 1/2.

What do you suggest???

I don't care for any bottled sauce but if you're going that route pick one and grab some juice while you're at it. I'd suggest pineapple.

Either pour about a cup of juice into a pot, bring to a simmer then reduce by 1/2, then add a cup of sauce, stir, simmer a few minutes, then check for sweetness. If you want it sweeter go with both honey and brown sugar, adding 1 T of honey and 1/2 T of brown sugar at a time till you get it where you want it.

Or--mix 1 cup sauce with 3/4 cup pineapple juice in a pot and bring to a simmer. Reduce till the thickness you prefer then sweeten, if desired, using the idea above.

Apple juice will work as well but I think pineapple works better.

I agree, I would rather not do a bottled sauce, however, I don't want to spend the money or the time to make a huge lot of sauce for 1 lunch.

I have always had good luck with buying bottled sauces from local BBQ joints. There are some good ones in grocery stores besides the mass produced ones.

I always look for a better quality one if I dont have time. For example, I try to make sure the first ingredient is not high fructose corn syrup. Just like when buying a quality bottle tomato sauce, I look for natural ingredients, and the least of them.

I do small batches of No. 5 all the time and it keeps very well in the fridge. We'll use it on grilled chicken throughout the month and seems to get better with age.

You can whip up a batch of No. 5 in less than 10 minutes.

Another vote for the No. 5 Sauce. I always keep some in a squeeze bottle, it's my old standby sauce. I also make Carolina Red for pulled pork, and that's one of the easiest sauces to make. I keep some of that in a bottle in the fridge at all times, also.

Some times I get a store brand take a cup and add 1/2 cup of vinegar simmer for a while and use it. I will have to give the juice a try.

I find it hard to put anything on pulled pork but a thin vinegar based sauce. There are tons of really easy recipes for it here and on the net.

I agree with you Mike. That vinegar sauce is the best with pulled pork. IMHO That is if you feel the need to put anything on it.

I agree but that is NOT the Kansas City style so you don't see it at KCBS comps.

Darn it!

My wife's great, she never uses sauce! She absolutely hates the smell when I make a batch of vinegar sauce.
