Problems coming up to temp using MM

Shawn, One last question for ya or for anyone for that matter. I had to use chips wrapped in foil packets for the first time on this cook. I laid them on top of the coals. Two at a time so it took up a lot of space on top of the hot coals. Could this have screwed with my air flow enough to cause the huge temp swings that I experienced?

I think too much surface area of foil pouches laying on top of the coals does impact the burn ... not so much early on but later on when ash clogging starts to be a factor I've really noticed it if using large foil pouches. I'd suggest just using one, cylindrical instead of spread out flat to keep the surface area of the foil covering your coals down.
