Problem with Bowl

Just received a new 18.5 inch WSM this week and the bottom bowl had a gash on the rim and some paint chipped off. Also had an uneven paint job.So I called customer service, they asked me to send photos of the problem and they would send out a new bowl. They said it would take 7-10 days but they actually over nighted it and they let me keep the damaged one. So,I'm happy.Just thought this might be of interest.

That is typical of Weber's excellent customer service. When I got mine there was a dent in the center section, they sent me another center section, and I had it the next day.

Very Cool Len! Everyone here KNOWS Weber's CS is great... however, I haven't heard of them asking for photos before...
Perhaps too many consumers are taking advantage of Weber's generosity and the company is buckling down...

Outstanding CS as always Len!!
That extra bowl ( with a handle ) would be a great lid for a high heat cook.

my advice - ditch the bowl. Spend 13 bucks and get a replacement CHARCOAL pan from Brinkmann. It fits perfectly in an 18.5 incher and holds just shy of 2 gallons. Its more of a pan than a bowl so it won't extend downward so close to your fire. Just make sure you get the CHARCOAL pan and not the WATER pan...the WATER pan won't fit. I made that mistake and found out the hard way. Check the modification section of this site for more info.

Len and you talking about the kettle or water bowl? Nevertheless, I agree with Jim in that I have never heard of Weber asking for pictures of the damaged goods before they agree to replace the part.

Len,get some high heat bbq paint, touch up the original damaged one, then use both bowls to make a piedmont pan. You won't have to worry about water then.

Well you were right in calling Weber, because you paid good money for a new WSM in new condition. But I agree about touching up the one that you received and keep it as a spare.

I was talking about the bowl that the legs screw into.

Oops - My bad. A Brinkmann charcoal bowl is still a good investment. I got one and haven't looked back.
