Dan--

Many if not most supermarkets get butts in cryo--2 in a package--but do not display them that way. They repackage them individually whole or cut them into smaller roasts, shoulder steaks, country style 'ribs', etc. Ask at the market you shop in now (or other area markets if need be) and see if they have them in cryo in the back.

Kevin:
Thanks! That was my next step but I was just wondering if there were some bulk meat stores or distributors around. I went to the local Tom Thumb and Krogers today and no pork butt or for that matter any similarly named cuts such as Boston etc.... I am looking forward to trying the Buckboard bacon.... I'll revisit the same grocers and get a hold of the butchers thanks.

I'm fairly certain I spied butt at the Kroger on Beltline in Irving the other day. I just glanced its way so I don't know if it was labled 'butt' or 'shoulder' or who knows what.

Definitely ask the meat manager and see what you can find out. Many meat suppliers (see the Yellow Pages for 'Meat, Wholesale') will sell retail if you buy by the case. And most carnicerias will have whole butts as they are so standard in hispanic cuisines.

Welcome to the board.

Dan,

I always buy my pork butt at Sam's wholesale in the Grapevine/Southlake area. I am sure other Sam's in the area will have the same thing. It is one of your best bets on meat. They do not always have pork butt displayed, but will have it in the back. As in most warehouses they come cryo'd with two butts. I just picked a pack up this week for around $14 for 12 lbs of bone-in butt.

Kevin/Brandon:
Thanks!
I was planning to smoke some brisket for Pastrami today, but since it is still raining I am off to Sam's to look for some Pork Butt!!
Hopefully the rain will subside long enough to at least get the WSM going.... once it's going all i do is get a garden umbrella to protect it from any rain!!
Thanks again.

Sams is definitely the go to place here for consistently low prices. However, I watch the ads for WD and Food World and from time to time catch those 79 cents or so prices. Buy and freeze.
