Porcelain crackling sound

New 18" WSM owner here with a quick question.

I brought home the smoker yesterday and put everything together. No problems with the assembly however the middle section wasn't fitting the top or bottom sections... slightly out of round. No biggie, I lightly did the bear-hug thing and got everything put together just fine. The question is that when I was giving the 'hug' i heard a slight crackling of what I presume is the porcelain. There are no visible cracks, everything still looks smooth... but I want to make sure I didn't doom my smoker before I used it.

There's a lot of advise on here about correcting the out-of-round problems but this sound is never mentioned so hopefully it's not too big of a deal.

Thanks in advance!

I would give it a good hot burn, and see if any "cracks" show up. I would bet that they probably won't. I would also bet that Weber Customer Service will replace it, if you tell them the story.

Even if you did create cracking in the porcelain if you can't see it, it's not going to matter. Maybe if you left it outside near the ocean or outside uncovered in a very damp area, but by the time it matters, you will not care. If you're worried, I would agree with Vern. If there are noticeable cracks, you might want to call Weber. Otherwise, get cooking!
