Just to add a little more to your question (which I think is the thing to ask). I've seen a lot written up about these thermometers including an awful lot of comments about how short lived they are. So personal preference and have you personally gotten long term use from them? Rich
 
The WEBER remote probe thermometer has worked flawlessly for me over the years.

They seem to be more durable than others, ... no need to replace probes etc

You can get em at Sears for less than $30 ... they're single probe, which works great for those of us who monitor WSM temp with the lid-installed factory thermometer

P.S. Whichever unit you decide on; get the BBQ Guru eyelets!

I've been using a Maverick ET-73 (which you'll find is very popular here) for a little while now and haven't had any issues with it. Only issue is the fact that you have to remove the battery cover to get access to the on/off switch on the transmitter. Once you get used to that its a great device.
