I am cooking up 3 Butts tomorrow. I have one 8 pounder and two 6 pounders. I have to work, so will be starting them at about 5 AM and my son will be taking them the rest of the way. I thought I would put the two 6 pounders on the same rack and the 8 pounder by itself. Will it make much of a difference, which goes on the top rack vs the bottom?

Won't really make any difference in the cooking. Might be easier and faster to spray with AJ if you had the 8lb'r on the top rack. You can then spray around it and get both of the others. No big deal. With water in the pan, the lower grate will be a little cooler so should work fine for the smaller butts.

If you were planning on eating that night you maybe pushing the time. The cook could go into a 16 hr range. Just a thought.

Good luck.

Todd,

I agree w/ Paul on time. Perhaps it is too late by now but, I did a 7lb by itself and it took 14hrs on the nose. Adding 2 more heat sinks in there and the time could get stretched out quite a bit! Just a thought!
