"Picnic" brand charcoal...ugh

Has anyone had a bad experience with Picnic charcoal briquettes? I tried them last summer and they had a smell like burning used oil. After some recommedations, I bought another bag recently and lit a chimney full to do some beer can chicken. The stuff had a lot of smoke and smelled like burning rags and garbage. The whole back yard stunk. I threw it out and started over with Kingsford.

Has anyone else had this problem? It's convinced me never to try it again. I've never had charcoal with this bad an odor.

Several around here use picnic lump with good success. The lump has a good aroma.

Q'n, Golf'n & Grill'n.... too many choices!

I am devoted Picnic Lump user.

I've never had any foul odors nor any bad burns.

It's a superior product IMO.

Was it lump or charcoal?
