If you change your mind about the whole rabbit hole thing, I'll be selling a nice blue performer bowl and lid in a few weeks.

As for the stainless bin cover, I believe I bent the hinge rod out of shape to get the cover off. It felt like something I shouldn't be doing but it worked.

hey Drew. Painted the frame and left the SS cover on. I too think I could have removed the rod by bending it as it was already bent already. But decided to just leave it be and paint around it.
I think I’m going to just leave the bowl as is. I mainly use my kamado for charcoal and was planning on using the performer as a roti - which I can’t find used and will cost 100 dollars. Passing on the bowl for now. But let me know when you post it.

So after taking it apart and looking at this project as a whole, I decided to just add rust reform and paint the frame. Using my past experience with gas Webers, I didn’t want to be I a situation where I try to go that extra mile and I turn damage something and not have spare parts. The two areas of concern with this grill was the bowl and the metal piece that holds the ignitator. Both have a good amount of rust and use.

So rust reformed and painted everything except the bowl. Bowl got a good amount of Sam’s club oven cleaner and got most of the old grease out. With the amount of pitting there and already finding 2 small holes, decided against scrubbing.

So here it is. Fully reassembled. Might keep this around and see if I can find a use for it. Do want to get my hands dirty on a rotisserie. No steak on the grill yet as I need to get a new grate. But it does spark and did a ceremonial first burn to breathe some smoke out…

JohnS NJ - Looks like it turned out great! I'm in a similar situation as I've refurb'd an old Genesis and just bought an old S/S Performer like yours. Well the one I bought is a real beater and a little more challenging than I thought it would be. Oh well, I'm in no rush. Re: that 5lb gas tank. Yah an new one is like $90! Pretty sure I don't want to spend that kind of $$ on this so I think once I'm done it will just be a regular old Performer w/ no gas.
